Hydrophone measurement course

This one day course aims to give basic competence in selecting and using hydrophones for making pressure measurements in the MHz frequency range.

The emphasis is on practical skills and approximately 50% of the time will be spent in the measurement laboratory, giving plenty of opportunity to develop “hands-on” experience. Lectures and laboratory work will focus on hydrophones manufactured by Precision Acoustics Ltd, but the material used will be of more general applicability.

Most of the laboratory work will use a submersible single-element transducer, but there will also be an opportunity to use linear array transducers attached to a commercial ultrasound scanner.

“The course is clearly delivered by knowledgeable experts in the field of ultrasound measurement, who have a good understanding of both the theory and application of the subject matter. Lectures are reinforced by practical, hands-on sessions using large water baths. In addition to providing a good theoretical and practical foundation to ultrasound measurement, the course illustrates some of the problems the user may encounter in their work, and shows how to solve them. I for one, had never appreciated that the axis of emission for peak intensity of the ultrasound output may not be perpendicular to the emission face!”
